General Manager

The Lyric is a historic, non-profit theater and premier live entertainment venue in Baltimore, presenting a variety of music, dance, comedy, and educational programming.

 

The General Manager will direct all venue operations at the Lyric and implement company goals and priorities related to the facility, staff, vendors, patrons, and community. Candidates must have 10+ years’ experience as a General Manager or similar title successfully managing an entertainment venue. Candidates should be self-motivated, adaptable, and have excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Background in event sales, production, and sponsorship a plus.

Title: General Manager

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Major Responsibilities

  • Execute facility goals, priorities, policies, and procedures
  • Work closely with the Lyric’s Board and Executive Director to maintain departmental standards and compliance and make sure each department reaches those goals
  • Oversee all departments including, but not limited to, Marketing, Booking, Operations, and Ticketing to create innovative offerings to drive revenue
  • Champion partner and community engagement
  • Recruit and develop talent as needed, while also monitoring current employee performance including all subcontractors and vendors
  • Maintain a safe, secure, inclusive, and healthy environment for employees, artists, and patrons
  • Review all contracts for client, events, subcontractors, food and beverage
  • Work closely with local government and community leaders to build, strengthen, and retain an excellent relationship with the city
  • Supervise expenses of concerts to maximize profits while protecting the guest and artist experience
  • Coordinate day-of-show activities and event set-up with Operations and Production teams
  • Responsible for meeting staffing levels and budget targets for each event
  • Available to be on-site for all events to handle settlement and any other post-show matters
  • Work with all other departments to help fulfil the requirements needed
  • Any other reasonable duties as required 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience as a General Manager of an entertainment venue 
  • Demonstrated record of excellence and achievement in performing arts management  
  • Exceptional leadership and strategic thinker 
  • Positive attitude and able to solve problems through an open-minded and inclusive approach 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and organizational ability
  • Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information is required
  • Strong supervisory skills

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work under limited supervision and to interact with all levels of staff including Board members, Executive Director, full-time and part-time employees, government officials and community members
  • Ability to work in-person during typical business hours, as well as irregular hours that may vary due to events and may include day, evening, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines
  • Must have professional attitude and appearance

Finance Director

Historic theater in downtown Baltimore looking for an energetic seasoned finance professional
with a minimum of 5 plus years’ experience as an entertainment/sports finance director or  equivalent.  Candidates must be proficient in budgeting, financial reporting, show settlements, flashes and be willing to work nights, weekends and work from the office.

Title: Finance Director

Summary

The Lyric is a non-profit performing arts center and live entertainment venue in Baltimore, presenting a variety of music, dance, comedy, and educational programming. 

The Finance Director will assist in the development and implementation of company goals and priorities relating to financial management, budgeting, accounting, purchasing, and/or payroll in compliance with State and Federal law. Candidates must have 5+ years’ experience as a Finance Director or equivalent position in the Entertainment/Sports industry.  

Major Responsibilities

•    Assist in the advancement and execution of facility goals and priorities relating to financial management, budget, accounting, purchasing, and/or payroll in compliance with State and Federal law, as well as the venue’s policies and procedures
•    Review all contracts for client, events, subcontractors, food and beverage
•    Manage and oversee finance staff and coordinate financial reporting 
•    Develop and implement all financial reporting, including but not limited to:

  • Prepare financial statements for the venue, and other financial reports, including monthly statements, annual budget and annual report
  • Direct the installation and maintenance of accounting records 
  • Direct the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses
  • Analyze financial performance and cost analyses for all departments; prepares monthly financial statements, recommends appropriate actions/changes to meet business goals
  • Prepare statements and reports on estimated future costs and revenues
  • Direct internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls
  • Coordinate preparation of the organization’s internal and/or external audit materials and financial reporting; implement recommendations 
  • Coordinate year-end report of fiscal performance for the General Manager's report

•    Review the financial statements with management personnel
•    Prepare event settlements and flashes at the conclusion of all events on a timely basis
•    Review and execute all checks and deposits; review daily cash receipts and disbursements
•    Monitor and project daily cash flow 
•    Prepare month and year end financial statements plus annual budget
•    Direct the installation and maintenance of any new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the finance department. Directly supervise all staff including but not limited to staff in payroll, accounts payable/receivable and box office. 


Education and Experience
•    B. S. in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college/university or equivalent
•    At least 5 to 7 years’ experience in entertainment/sports industry or equivalent
•    CPA a plus

Qualifications

•    Extensive knowledge of general and cost accounting
•    Excellent math skills; high aptitude for figures
•    Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and organizational ability
•    Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information is required
•    Strong supervisory skills
•    Extensive knowledge of accounting software 
•    Extensive knowledge of accounting software, spreadsheets and word processing software
•    Extensive knowledge of accounting software 
•    Extensive knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
•    Knowledge of backend ticketing platforms a plus
